The Internship Journey
From Application to Impact
How most bioinformatics internships unfold - from first contact to final presentation.
01
Discover & Apply
Browse listings here or reach out directly to research groups. Any coding or data experience counts - it doesn't need to be bioinformatics-specific.
02
Interview & Scope
Most supervisors run a casual chat to assess fit. Project scope is usually set collaboratively. Confirm dates, stipend, and deliverables upfront.
03
On-board & Build
Expect the first two weeks on environment setup and data familiarisation. Most projects involve coding, analysis, and regular check-ins with your supervisor.
04
Present & Publish
Strong internships end in a lab presentation, poster, or co-authorship. Many interns go on to honours, PhD scholarships, or direct employment.
